On June 19th, 1961, Kuwait gained its independence from the United Kingdom. Few days later the Japanese government sent a congratulatory telegram to Kuwait. Following this event, both Japan and Kuwait began preparing the establishment of diplomatic relations. Kuwait delegated the Goodwill Mission headed by Mr. Mohamed Qabazard and Mr. Soleiman Thanie to Japan. In early November, Kuwait informed Japan that Mr. Soleiman Thanie was appointed to the post of Ambassador of Kuwait to Japan. Then Kuwait embassy in Mita, Tokyo opened on February 20th, 1962. Since then, mutual amicable relations between Kuwait and Japan have continued to develop and flourish until now.
