Jahra

Jahra has always been an agricultural town. However, with the urban development which swallowed most of its farms, replacing these with a rash of modern buildings, this green oasis has lost much of its distinguishing character, although some agricultural holdings are still to be found in the eastern part of the town.

Development projects and creation of a commercial center are being implemented. In effect, the town has been divided into five areas --- Jahra, Al-Wafra, Al-Eyoun, Al-Taima'a, Al-Qasr and an industrial and handicraft areas.

Al-Jahra's most important national monument is Qasr Al-Ahmar (the Red Palace) which stands as a reminder of the famous battle of Jahra fought in 1920. The palace is one of Kuwait's most outstanding tourist landmarks, and a center for exhibitions and festivals
